        The Government College of Teacher Education, Thycaud, like all other institutions across the Kerala state celebrated Onam 2019 with subdued tones in respect to the lives lost in the floods and landslides of 2019. This year’s Onam celebration was much more important because Teacher’s Day also fell on the very same day. As a teacher training institute, the day is quite special to all the student-teachers as well as the teachers. September 05 of every year is celebrated as Teacher’s day in honour of Dr S Radhakrishnan’s Birthday, the former president of India and one of the best teacher’s India has had. Teachers' Day aims to value and acknowledge the contribution of all the teachers in shaping one’s lives. Onam, the harvest festival of Kerala, is celebrated with various cultural programmes, games, competitions and get-togethers.             On August 15, 2019, India celebrated her 73 rd Independence Day. It took hundreds of years for us to break free from the shackles of slavery. People of this great country celebrate this day, every year with great pomp and show. Our College, Government College of Teacher Education, Thycaud, also celebrated this national day with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervor.           The I B.Ed. students were assigned various roles for the day by our Physical Education instructor, Dr. S.J. Shabu, well in advance. All the students were grouped according to the 4 houses of the college, named after the rivers of Kerala – Chandragiri, Nila, Pampa and Periyar.      All the students assembled in the ground for march-past at 8.15am.
