Teacher's Day 2020

If there were no teachers’, all other professions would not exist.

September 05 is celebrated as Teacher’s Day in India every year in honour of one of India’s greatest teacher who was also the former president of the nation, Dr S Radhakrishnan. Without fail, Government College of Teacher Education, Thycaud also celebrated the auspicious day, on September 05, 2020 albeit through virtual help due to the COVID ’19 pandemic. As a teacher training institute, it is of no surprise that the importance of the day was felt deeply and celebrated grandly by the student-teachers and teachers. Keeping with the teacher’s day theme by UNESCO for 2020, Teachers: leading in crisis, Reimagining future, the pride of being a teacher resonated within the gathered as they vowed to do their best as a Teacher.

The celebrations were held on the virtual platform, Google meet at 11.00am on September 05, 2020, by the college union SARGAM. Dr. Joly S, the H.OD of Malayalam was the teacher co-ordinator who helped us organize the event with the support of the Principal-in-charge, Dr T K Jayasree. Invitations were spread out in the form of digital posters the day before the event.

Despite connectivity problems and the real-life distance between everyone, the programme held a solemn air of togetherness with a determined mind-set looking for a better future. It was a day to be cherished with the memories of all the teachers who had led each student to where they are now.

Every student-teacher left the meeting with a stronger conviction to be a better teacher; to learn from the nature and to nurture the young ones that will come in front of us in the future; to be a guide and to continuously keep on learning. The feelings of pride for being a teacher and a sense of humility over the great responsibilities that were placed on our shoulders were felt and reminded of again by our mentors through this event. The celebration was not just a day for thanking and honouring out teachers but also a day to show the future trainees of what holds for us in the future and how to strengthen our resolve. All the student-teachers came out of the Google meet with a renewed sense of purpose to carry on the precious burdens of our predecessors. After all, being a teacher is the most important yet most risky duty that can be levied upon anyone, and the one who carries it calmly, humbly and faithfully will be the true teacher.
