Gandhi Jayanthi 2020

 The 151st birthday of the father of India, Mahatma Gandhi is always marked with celebrations remembering to his principles of life and vision of India. On October 02, 2020, amidst the raging COVID-19 pandemic, the usual festivities of Government College of Teacher Education, Thycaud, Thiruvananthapuram, were forsaken for an online celebration.

 This year’s celebratory activities were a perfect combination of the mind, body and spirit as always envisioned by Gandhi. The programme for the day was fixed and organised under the guidance of the principal Dr. T.K. Jayasree and Dr. Joly S, H.O.D of Malayalam. Four different activities were structured for the students who were given the choice of choosing which activity they wanted to partake in. The activities were a Webinar competition on Gandhian Thoughts, Campus Cleaning, mask making, and soap/lotion making.

On Monday, the students presented their papers through Google meet from 10.00am to 1.30 pm.  There were 5 student presentations which were judged by the teachers. The students had been pre-informed of the themes for the webinar from which they could develop their topics on their area of interest. There were 10 themes in total:

1.      Experiential learning

2.      Work and Education

3.      School Curriculum and Work Education

4.      Curriculum and Values

5.      Community and Work Education

6.      Social Responsibility and Children

7.      Value Based Education

8.      Education and Regional Development

9.      Work Education and Competency development

10.  Teacher Education and Community Engagement

Each presentation was unique and different from each other and the effort put forth by the students were clearly felt by the audience. A healthy discussion followed after each presentation showing the success of the webinar.

Onam 2020

  The 2020 Onam celebration was a first of its kind in the history of Government College of Teacher Education, Thycaud. With the COVID pandemic outbreak, the college union had to come up with a novel method for celebrating the festival. SARGAM organized a virtual celebration named e-onam on August 27, 2020. Even though the usual festivities of creating a pookalam, swinging on an oonjal, or even the joy of eating a sadhya together were missing, a new synergy was built by the active participation of all the assembled in the various activities that were conducted live and pre-meet. Language Sundays

  The Government College of Teacher Education, Thycaud, Thiruvananthapuram, celebrated November 01, 2020 as Sreshta Basha Dinam along with the Kerala Piravi celebrations. As per the new normal, the celebrations were held online through Google Meet at 11:00AM. The college I.Q.A.C in association with the literary club organized the celebration, under the guidance of Principal Dr. Rajeswari.K, I.Q.A.C Co-ordinator Dr. V.K.Santhosh Kumar and programme co-ordinator, Dr.Joly.S.
